eJournal:
Lounge Activation

For Lufthansa’s eJournal service, I had the opportunity to design key visual illustrations that enhance the overall experience of passengers accessing digital magazine content during their travels. These illustrations serve two main purposes: general communication of the service and individual magazine covers for well-known titles such as Manager, Spiegel, The New Yorker, and Gala. The eJournal allows passengers to download and read a variety of magazines on their mobile devices after booking a flight, ensuring an engaging travel experience throughout their journey.

CHALLENGE:

The challenge of this project lay in adhering to Lufthansa’s strict brand guidelines while also ensuring that the illustrations remained recognizable and distinct for each magazine. The design style dictated a minimalistic, flat-color approach, maintaining a frontal perspective with colors drawn directly from Lufthansa’s brand palette. Additionally, since the magazine covers change periodically and the use of original cover designs was not allowed, I had to create illustrations that captured the essence of each publication’s content and style. The goal was to design artwork that was clearly associated with the specific magazines, yet still met Lufthansa’s corporate identity requirements without compromising the unique visual identity of each title.

SOLUTION & MY ROLE:

To solve this, I designed custom illustrations that visually encapsulated the themes and subjects of each magazine, all while respecting Lufthansa’s corporate identity. By focusing on minimalist shapes and clean lines, I ensured that the illustrations maintained a recognizable link to each publication without relying on the actual covers. I carefully selected elements from each magazine's editorial content to create visuals that felt fresh yet instantly familiar to the reader. My role involved both conceptualizing the illustrations and executing them within the parameters set by Lufthansa’s guidelines, balancing creativity with brand consistency. This project allowed me to explore creative solutions while keeping a strong connection to the magazines' essence, offering travelers a seamless and visually compelling digital reading experience.
